The perfect recipe for an offshore wind turbine

EOW 2009 Selected track and topic:
Technology and innovation track: New concepts in wind turbine and offshore technology

Abstract title:
THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR AN OFFSHORE WIND TURBINE

Summary of your work:
Offshore wind is a challenge were we need the knowledge and experience of proven technology from the oil and gas sector, the commercial and practical wind knowledge from the wind industry, the political, theoretical and historical knowledge of the wind sector and refreshing and creative ideas to think out of the box. Our team combined all these and even more ingredients to cook up the perfect recipe for an offshore wind turbine. Looking at the production, transportation, installation, maintaining, operating and decommissioning phases and off course the commercial efficiency!

Full description:
Our presentation will certainly keep the public awake and trigger them to respond and talk about our innovative concept. The speakers we have in our team are well known in the industry.
Our concept is based on all phases of an offshore wind farm project.
Already taking into account the production of the wind turbine and all the challenges behind this. Market conditions, sub suppliers, serial production, ‘keep it simple’, etc.. This is directly followed by the transport from the factory to the harbour, how to handle these large weights and big dimensions or are there other solutions, will it be small and light? We will satisfy your curiosity! The installation is the next challenge. The risk of shortage of conventional vessels and the costs involved need to be mitigated by thinking out of the box and being smart. The maintenance phase is one that is mostly not thought about well enough by the market, however already in the design of the WTG this should be thought of and also in the development of the wind farm the strategy on maintenance should be reflected in the wind turbine concept. And last but not least, since wind is a renewable market we should act like that by creating concepts which are able to be decommissioned without leaving any trails. In all the above and lots of other challenges that are not mentioned in this 400 word abstract we succeeded with our new turbine concept. Let us surprise the world during the European Offshore Wind 2009 Conference and Exhibition!
